W Newborn Photos

It must be raining Boys because that’s all I’ve had at the studio the last several weeks! I cant complain, they’ve been spoiling me! Newborn Baby Boys are notoriously more sleepy than baby girls and therefor easier to pose and photograph! I always joke with parents and say girls and boys are all born the same. Girls are born with the innate desire to get things done and if anything interferes with their schedule (or sleep cycle) they’re going to let you know, whereas newborn boys are just happy as long as they’re warm and their bellies are full!

Mom and Dad included so many sentimental elements in their baby boys newborn photos and even Grandma was included in some of the family photos! Parents, if you’re on the fence about taking photos with your newborn because you’re feeling tired or just not up to it, look at how gorgeous these two look. That could be you!

Milk Bath Mini

Before I had the studio in White Bluff, I used to photograph families, maternity clients and newborns in my sunroom at my old house in Nashville. I’ll tell you, it was traumatic every time I had someone over. First, I’d had to clean for hours before, then, I had to shun anyone that was home into the back part of the house, and worst of all, the animals were literally shaking the door trying to get in the whole time! It was stressful to say the least but one of the things I actually do miss about shooting at my old home studio was that I had access to a bathtub!

You’d never be able to tell by looking but my old bathroom was the size of a coffin, so fitting a massive softbox in there and having to hover over my Maternity clients on the edge of the tub was quite a sight to be seen! I also would buy several poster boards and tape them to the walls to create a clean smooth look that also made it easier to edit after the fact, it was all very Jerry Rigged.

As difficult as it was, doing milk bath maternity photos was well worth all the effort! Though I now have a blow up pool to do milk bath or water photos, it doesn’t come with the heavy trauma and funny story that these gorgeous images did!

W Newborn Session

Though I am a big fan of vivid colors and very bold themes, the minimalistic newborn photos have been very popular over the last few years! I even have two whole pages in my prep and styling packet covering the variety and potential possible with just the bare minimum. While I am all for bold and trendy themes, this minimalistic, or as I’m told, Gen Z calls it the clean girl look is a perfect way to ensure your photos are absolutely timeless and flow with any theme or room in the house!

I did big sister E’s newborn photos at Mama J and Papap L’s house a few years prior to Baby W being born and I’ve got to say, it must be hard being born into a family of super models. With Mama J being a creative artist herself, there’s always a lot of pressure to create but W made it easy for me!

Newborn baby boys are always so sleepy (putting my foot in my mouth here) but I was thrilled to be able to include photos with his siblings, one of who was a toddler and was still such a good listener, and his families love of sports! This session was done ages ago which means we’ll be sharing his Cake Smash even sooner!
